ABSTRACT
Thyroglossal duct cyst (TGDC) is the most common congenital midline neck mass in children. It usually becomes symptomatic following a respiratory tract infection and is usually diagnosed at 5 years of age. Thyroglossal duct cyst is rarely observed in less than 1-year-old infants. In this study, we present a 3-month-old infant with TGDC, who was administered multiple courses of antibiotic therapy for the hyperemic, draining, midline neck mass that had existed since he was 15 days old. Physical examination revealed an infrahyoid midline neck mass measuring 3×3 cm, which moved while swallowing and had a sinus opening in the overlying skin. The patient underwent Sistrunk operation under general anesthesia. Histopathologic examination revealed TGDC. One-year follow-up revealed no recurrence.
ÖZET
Tiroglossal duktus kisti (TGDK) çocuklardaki en sık konjenital orta hat kitlesidir. Genellikle geçirilen solunum yolu enfeksiyonları sonrası enfekte olarak semptomatik hal almakta ve ortalama 5 yaş civarında tanı konulmaktadır. Tiroglossal duktus kisti nadiren 1 yaşın altında görülür. Bu çalışmada TGDK olan 3 aylık bir hasta sunulmuştur. Doğuştan beri orta hatta yerleşik boyunda şişliği olan 3 aylık erkek hasta, bu şişlikten ilk olarak 15 günlük iken olmak üzere, akıntı ve kızarıklık olması nedeni ile birkaç kez antibiyotik tedavisi almış. Yapılan fizik muayenesinde boyun orta hatta infrahyoidal düzeyde yutkunmakla hareketli ve üzerindeki ciltte sinüs ağzı olan yaklaşık 3x3 cm’lik kitle saptandı. Hastaya genel anestezi altında Sistrunk operasyonu yapıldı. Histopatolojik inceleme TGDK şeklinde sonuçlandı. Bir yıllık izlemde rekürens ile karşılaşılmadı.
