ABSTRACT

Pilomatrixoma is an uncommon, benign growth originated from the hair matrix that may have several clinical presentations and is frequently misdiagnosed. It is mostly located in head and neck especially in the preauricular region. Although the head and neck region is the most common area where calcifying epithelioma occurs, otolaryngologists do not have sufficient information about the disease. Therefore, epidemiology, clinical findings, clinical examination, pathology, therapy and prognosis of calcifying epithelioma were discussed. Our intention is to include the pilomatrixoma among the possible differential diagnosis of calcified masses inside the growths of the parotid gland.

ÖZET

Pilomatriksoma veya kalsifiye epitelioma sıklıkla baş boyun, özellikle de preauriküler bölgede yer alan, yavaş büyüyen ve kaynağı saç folikülleri olan benign bir lezyondur. Baş boyun cerrahının çalışma alanı içinde olmasına rağmen otolarengolog-ların bu hastalık hakkında yeterli bilgiye sahip olmadıkları aşikardır. Bunun için bu tümörün epidemiyolojisi, klinik bulguları, muayene bulguları, patoloji ve tedavi seçenekleri tartışılmış, parotis bezi bölgesinde yer alan kalsifiye kitlelerin ayırıcı tanısında bu tümörün de düşünülmesi hedeflenmiştir.
