In this study efficacy of frequently used topical corticosteroids in rhinitis of rat nose was investigated. Topical corticosteroid, budesonide was applied twice a day 10 μL into the noses of 10 rats in study group and serum physiologic was applied into noses of 6 rats in control group for 21 days. Histopathologic findings from three different sites, one from anterior site nearby incisor teeth, one from posterior site around hard palate and one from second tracheal ring were correlated. There were no significant differences regarding edema, ciliary loss and intraepithelial loss. Fibrosis, increase in epithelial thickness at anterior slides, infiltration of inflammatory cells at posterior slides and increase in goblet cells were found significant.

Budesonide was found as a safe topical corticosteroid for nasal mucosa.

ÖZET

Çalışmada rinit tedavisinde sıklıkla kullanılan topikal kortikoste-roidlerin mukozal etkinlikleri rat burnunda araştırıldı. Çalışma grubuna alınan 10 ratın burnuna günde iki kez 10 |Jİ dozunda topikal kortikosteroid olarak budesonid, kontrol grubundaki 6 ratın burnuna ise serum fizyolojik 21 gün süreyle uygulandı. Biri önde kesici dişler, biri arkada sert damak seviyesinden ve bir diğeri de ikinci trakeal halka seviyesinden alınan üç ayrı kesitteki histopatolojik bulgular karşılaştırıldı. Ödem, silyer kayıp, int-raepitelyal kayıp açısından anlamlı bir fark gözlenmedi. Fibrozis ile ön kesitlerdeki epitel kalınlığındaki artma ve arka kesitlerdeki inflamatuar hücre infiltrasyonu, goblet hücre artışı anlamlı bulundu.

Budesonidin nazal mukozada güvenle kullanılabilecek topikal kortikosteroid olduğu tespit edildi.
