Ophthalmic complications due to sinus diseases are often seen and well known. But ophthalmic complications due to silent sinus syndrome are rare clinical entities. Silent sinus syndrome is known as asymptomatic maxillary sinus disease with spontaneous enophthalmos and hypoglobus. Patients present with symptoms as sinking or pulling sensation of the eye. Most of the patients present to an ophthalmologist for evaluation of the eye asymmetry. The goals of the treatment are relieving the ostial occlusion and decompression and evacuation of the maxillary sinus. In this article, we present two cases with silent sinus syndrome, their treatment and regression of the orbital complaints after sinus surgery.

ÖZET

Sinüs hastalıklarına bağlı olarak ortaya çıkan oftalmik komplikasyonlara sık rastlanır. Ancak Sessiz Sinüs Sendromu (SSS) ve beraberinde görülen oftalmik komplikasyonlar oldukça nadirdir. SSS spontan ortaya çıkan enoftalmus ve hypoglobus ile seyreden asemptomatik maksiler sinüs hastalığıdır. Ortaya çıkan ilk semptomlar ise gözde çekilme ve çökme hissidir. Hastaların çoğu başlangıçta gözde asimetri şikayeti ile bir göz hekimine başvururlar. Tedavide amaç öncelikle maksiler sinüs ostiumunu açmak, sinüs drenajını sağlamak ve dekompresyondur. Bu makalede SSS’lu iki vakanın tanı, tedavi ve takip süreçlerini özetlenmiştir.
